Using the thinking hats to sort adjectives

Today we sorted adjectives which describe people under three thinking hats - red, yellow and green. It was great to have Jake part of our group for the first time too!

Crow and the fox

I learned about stories at ESOL this term.
I am using puppets to tell the story of Crow and the fox.
I am being the clever fox.
He is clever because he tricks the crow and eats the meat.
Next time I will use sentence beginnings.

Golf

On Sunday I went to golf with my Dad. I needed a golf club, some blue tees and some white balls.
First we teed up and we started. I swung my golf club and hit the ball hard. I had four shots to get the ball into the hole.
After that we played another seventeen holes.
My Dad won because he is a good player.

My weekend

I went to Springfield on Saturday afternoon. I went with my family. We went to Springfield because my Dad's friend invited us to go to see them.
First I watched a movie. The movie was called Dragonball. I liked it because Son Gonku did lots of fighting.
After that I went to sleep.
In the morning I woke up at 7 o'clock and no one else was up.
We came back later that morning.
I really enjoyed going to Springfield because it was very fun.

Maui

Maui is a team player because he catches the sun with his brothers.
Maui is a communicator because he tells his brothers to make the sun go more slowly.
Maui is a Maori person.
Maui is tall and strong because he fights the sun.
Maui is not scared the sun and he knows what to do.

Making origami

Last week we made some origami fish because it was culture week.
Origami comes from Japan. I come from Japan.

Visit to Mairehau First Learners Preschool

Today the Senior and Middle School ESOL students visited Mairehau First Learners preschool. We went there to practice our oral language skills by teaching the young children how to make origami cups.

Here are some of our comments about the trip ...

Ji Won "I enjoyed playing with the children because I made new friends, knowing each others name, age and something they liked. The children did not know how to an origami cup. We helped them."







Yusuke "I thought it was hard to ride the little bikes."






Stephanie "I learnt about speaking louder and using a verb at the start of the sentence."






Natsuko "I had to use a big loud voice. I had to help the children."






So Won "I read a story about pirates and they found some treasure."






Samuel "Playing on the playground with the little kids was fun because I made new friends."






Ryan "Helping the little kids was good because I could teach people. I had to talk loud and help them."

Paper folding with Yellow Group

Yusuke: "I made some paper things. My favourite is the Fortune Teller. I am learning about saying instructions."

Stephanie: "We have been folding paper in half and I taught Mrs A how to make a box. We are learning about verbs while we are learning how to fold."

Samuel: "I have folded paper into a Fortune Teller and I have made a cracker basket. We are learning about verbs and adjectives."

How to make a cup

1. Fold the paper in half corner to corner.
2. Open the paper. Fold the other corners together.
3. Fold the top corner down to the bottom.
4. Turn it over and do the same thing.
5. Fold the corner into the middle.
6. Do the same to the other side.
7. Fold the triangle down.

We have been playing games to help improve our talking in English.

Yellow group learning

Samuel - I am learning about families. We are learning about using adjectives.
Louie - I am learning about families.
Stephanie - we are learning to describe our families. We have talked about uncles, cousins and grandmothers.
Yusuke - We have been talking about cousins.

We've been icing biscuits!

The Library

I went to the Library yesterday.
The picture books are on the bottom shelf.
I can borrow a book from Desna.
She is the Librarian.
I like reading some picture books at the Library.

Rhyming words

We are learning to write words that have the same ending. Today we are writing words that rhyme with hen.

At the Mall

At the Mall I tried to put on my shoes and my foot didn't fit in. Then I went to the Food Court. I ate a hamburger. It was bad because it had vegetables in it. I put the paper in the bin. I went to my house and sat on the sofa. By Louie

Green group writing about rhyming words

Louie said, "I am writing words that end with -og". Yusuke said, "I am making a sentence with words that have -og".

A Dolphin is a mammal.
A Dolphin has a long tail and two fins.
A Dolphin swims and jumps out of the water.
A Dolphin eats fish and squid.
A Dolphin lives in the sea.

Sun flower seed

I am putting the dirt into the pot.
I am putting the seeds into the pot.
I am putting the water on the dirt.
The sun is shining on the seed.
The seed will grow into a flower.

Tui's Bar Graph

Last week we made a bar graph about how many people there are in our families. We found out that ...
Yusuke has the most people in his family.

Diane, Samuel, Shion, Stephanie and Mrs Willimas have the least amount of people in their families. They all have four.

Yusuke has more people in his family than everyone else in the group. He has five.
