Planting a daisy

On Wednesday of Week 7 the ESOL people planted shrubs in the ESOL garden. I planted a daisy with Raphael. First I pushed the bark off the weed mat. Bark is hard. Next Mrs Anthony cut the weed mat. We had turns to dig a hole. The soil was wet. Next we took the daisy out of the pot and put it in the hole. Last we put dirt over the roots and put bark on top of the weed mat. Bark is dark brown. The daisies smell good.

The ESOL party

On Wednesday our ESOL people had an ESOL party to celebrate our friendship unit. First on the programme was the speeches. I said "We chose an ESOL friend to make a paper chain for. On the chain we wrote what makes them special." Next we played games. I liked playing musical chairs. I got 2nd and I also liked silent ball. I was a champion.

Mercury and the Woodman

Our language topic is Narrative. We are learning to tell stories using different sentence beginnings and conjunctions. We are learning to describe a characters using adjectives and similes.

We listened to the story of Mercury and the Woodman then we made stick puppets of the characters. We retold the story as a group. Here is the video of our retell ...

Cultural crafts

Last week I made many different culture's crafts. My favourite craft was the dharma doll because the dhama doll has a funny face and colourful body. I'm from Japan and the dharma doll is from Japan! I liked the origami fish because the origami fish I thought was too easy but making it was hard.

Visit to Mairehau First Learners Preschool

Today the Senior and Middle School ESOL students visited Mairehau First Learners preschool. We went there to practice our oral language skills by teaching the young children how to make origami cups.

Here are some of our comments about the trip ...

Ji Won "I enjoyed playing with the children because I made new friends, knowing each others name, age and something they liked. The children did not know how to an origami cup. We helped them."







Yusuke "I thought it was hard to ride the little bikes."






Stephanie "I learnt about speaking louder and using a verb at the start of the sentence."






Natsuko "I had to use a big loud voice. I had to help the children."






So Won "I read a story about pirates and they found some treasure."






Samuel "Playing on the playground with the little kids was fun because I made new friends."






Ryan "Helping the little kids was good because I could teach people. I had to talk loud and help them."

Our sandcastle

On Monday I made a sandcastle in the sand pit.  The sandcastle had many shells and sticks.  The shells were bumpy, stripy and round.  The sticks were long and straight.

The Wonky Donkey

The Wonky Donkey is tall and skinny. He is brown and he has three legs. The Wonkey Donkey is smelly. He likes country music. He wears some headphones on his head. He likes to drink coffee.

Planting a seed

On Monday morning I planted a seed outside the ESOL room.
The seed will grow into a tall big sun flower.

Saturn

Saturn is a planet. It is sixth from the Sun. Saturn has 18 moons. The biggest moon is called Titan. Saturn has rings made from rocks and frozen water. Saturn goes around the Sun. Saturn is in the Solar System.

Hippo Report

A hippo is a big animal.
A hippo has a baby and sharp teeth.
A hippo lives in a river.
A hippo sleeps in the river and walks in the mud.

Natsuko wins dominoes

Today I played dominoes with Mrs A. We played in the ESOL room. I am very good at dominoes because I beat Mrs A.

Wearable Arts by Natsuko

On Tuesday, I went to Wearable Arts.
I went to the theatre.
I did dancing and singing to music.
The parents came to watch.
I liked making the art for the show.

Sam the dog by Natsuko

Sam is a brown dog. Sam walks and chases ducks. Sam lives in a brown basket. He sleeps and barks softly. Sam has a lead and a collar. He has a short tail and long ears and a red tongue. I like Sam!

Starlight Express by Natsuko

On Saturday, I went to Starlight Express with Yusuke, Mum and Kensulou. I liked the skating but I didn't like Electra. The show was at the theatre. I liked Starlight Express a lot.

Elgrego by Natsuko

On Wednesday morning, I went to Elgrego at the Village. He did tricks and magic. I liked the white rabbit because he was cute!

I made a cat and a mouse. I like the mouse because he is blue. I like the cat's whiskers!
